Epstein files: A major scandal with no new actual arrests

Epstein Files

By Ioanna Theou

The US Department of Justice (DOJ) released million of pages of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein almost one year before and again there was no coherent legal developments on the case. The releasing of this material included email and messages, FBI and police reports, witness interviews, flight logs, financial and banking record, property records, photographs and videos, and documents concerning the 2007-08 non-prosecution agreement involving Epstein. These files provided a huge amount of information about Epstein’s activities and his connections with wealthy and influential people in politics, business, academia and royalty. Thus we haven’t even seen all the names because the DOJ decided to keep secret their identities through blurring their names inside the files or to hide the involved peoples’ faces.

For someone that is not familiar with the Epstein case, Jeffrey Epstein was born in Brooklyn in 1953. Despite the fact he did not graduate from university, he managed initially to teach mathematics at the Dalton School, an elite private institution in Manhattan. From a young age he started to build connections with powerful men. He also worked for the Wall Street investment bank Bear Stearns, but he had to leave due to regulatory violation related to his misconduct.

Epstein decided to find his own financial management and consulting firm, which serviced ultra-wealthy clients and built his fortune. This moment was pivotal for him because he created more relationships with powerful figures across politics, business, royalty and academia. In 1991, Epstein met Ghislaine Maxwell. Maxwell was the daughter of the known Robert Maxwell. Ghislaine and Jeffrey were both partners and co-conspirators.

As for whether their relationship was genuine and real, that remains unknown. Only Ghislaine and Jeffrey can answer that question… or rather only Ghislaine since Jeffrey committed suicide in his cell during his imprisonment. She may have fallen in love with him, but his feelings remain somewhat uncertain -especially after his past history became public. In any case, meeting Ghislaine was an opportunity for Jeffrey to expand his social circle even further. Her father was a major publisher, so she also enjoyed access to an influential network.

Jeffrey Epstein seemed to be a successful businessman until 2005, when an official investigation started. Police in Florida started the investigation of Epstein for the sexual abuse of a 14-year old girl. Before 2005 there was another victim, who testified to FBI but apparently the Bureau ignored her and did not even initiate a relevant investigation. Maria Farmer accused Jeffrey Epstein for her sister’s harassment. Her case was eventually examined almost a decade later, in May 23, 2006. Farmer contacted first the NYPD’S sixth Precinct on Aug. 29, but the NYPD referred her to speak directly to the FBI for her case.

Somehow Maria Farmer’s case was ignored. According to Maria Farmer’s attorney, FBI agents arrived unexpectedly at her house on November 11, 2006. The agents claimed that they were aware of her 1996 statement about Jeffrey Epstein. Thus, the FBI launched a federal sex trafficking investigation and they discovered that at least 36 girls who were minors at the of their abuse. But why in Florida?

Epstein bought a mansion in Palm Beach and therefore the Royal Palm Beach High School was a major source of Epstein’s underage victims and the police records provide the accurate information of how her targeted teenage girls there. Epstein started the recruitment of girls by offering them money for massages in his mansion. The detail that he forgot to mention to the girls was the sexual harassment after the massage.

US Attorney Alexander Acosta negotiated a non-prosecution agreement granting Epstein federal immunity. Basically Jeffrey Epstein had to plead guilty to two state charges. And just like that he was sentenced to only 18 months, but he was allowed to work outside of the security facility for 12 hours per day. The best part is that he was released from ‘’prison’’ after serving less than 13 months at the Palm Beach Country Stockade, and had to register as a sex offender.

Epstein faced allegations from multiple women for sexual harassment during all these years. Epstein was finally arrested in July 2019. The main charge was sex trafficking. While he awaited for his trial he was found dead in his own cell. All the ‘evidence’ indicated suicide. Thus, the case did not close but continued against Epstein’s longtime partner, Ghislaine Maxwell. The main reason for her arrest was the aid for the recruitment of underage girls as well as the sexual abuse crimes. Maxwell is currently in prison, serving a sentence of 20 years.

Virginia Giuffre is another example for the Epstein case victims. Both Epstein and Maxwell approached young girls who were in financial need. The approach was essentially the same every time; messages in exchange for payment. We also observe another pattern in the Maria Farmer and Virginia Giuffre case. In the case of Maria Farmer, Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell initially approached the older sister, who was an artist. Maria worked for Epstein as a fine arts painter. The powerful ‘couple’  used Maria Farmer as a means for access.

They claimed that they could help with the education of Maria’s little sister, Annie, and they insisted on meeting her, while promising her sister that they are willing to help with Annie’s education. Annie, unfortunately was unlucky and he met both Jeffry Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, who both sexually harassed her. Similarly, in the Virginia Giuffre case, Epstein promised her that he was willing to help her with her message education. These two cases illustrate another aspect of Epstein’s approach; he targeted these two victims by offering a chance in education – not just money just as he used to offer back in Florida.

Except from Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein had an inner circle that was released by the Justice Department. Of course, the DOJ redacted the faces and the names of certain persons except from Ghislaine Maxwell, Jean Luc Brunel, Darren Indyke, Richard Kahn, Harry Beller and Lesley Groff. Jean Luc Brunner was a French model scout. His model agency basically was financed by Epstein . A number of victims have supported that Brunel helped Epstein in his recruitment. Darren Indyke was Epstein’s lawyer and had a knowledge about Epstein’s finances.

Richard Kahn, Epstein’s accountant was involved as well. Harry Beller was Epstein’s financial advisor and worked with Kahn to manage ‘parts’ of Epstein’s finances. Lesley Groff, was Jeffrey’s personal assistant and the victims recognised her because she coordinated travel and logistics for them, as they were targeted by Epstein. Those mentioned above were associates or just employees. In addition, the documentt released have several other names that were unfortunately redacted. Les Waxner, former CEO of Victoria’s Secret was also involved in the trafficking network.

And the list isn’t finished yet… Rich, well known- people involved in the Epstein case. The younger brother of Britain’s King Charles is involved with Epstein -and his ex-wife as well. The scandal with prince Andrew was so big and eventually his brother -and king- decided to strip him of his royal title. Virginia Giuffre accused Prince Andrew of sexually assaulting her while she was a teenager.  Andrew initially denied everything but apparently paid millions to settle the civil case between him and Giuffre. The sad thing isn’t only that a prince was involved in the Epstein case, but that he is the father of two girls.

Peter Mandelson, the UK’s former US ambassador was under police investigation because there are emails that showed he provided Epstein with sensitive information during the 2008 financial crisis. President Donald Trump has been identified more that 4,000 times in the files. Trump denied any connection to Epstein and Maxwell and supports that they simply met at various gatherings. There are many theories on the internet about Melania Trump being involved as well.

The royal family of Norway is connected to Epstein’s case because of the crown princess, Mette-Marit Hoiby. Mette-Marit exchange several emails with Epstein during his 2008 conviction. Obviously, she went unpunished; she merely apologised in an interview on Norway’s national broadcaster (NRK). Ehud Barak, the former Israeli prime minister is quoted in Epstein’s files and he also used Epstein’s New York residence. Ehud Barak confirmed his interactions with Epstein, but he claimed he was never involved with the trafficking network.

Bill Gates had ties with Jeffrey Epstein and this was one of the main reasons why Melinda Gated divorced him…Bill gates insisted that indeed he met with Jeffrey Epstein between 2011 and 2014, solely to discuss issues about fundraising and for global health initiatives. Gates also stated that Epstein attempted to blackmail Gates over him having affairs with other women. The formed President of the US, Bill Clinton, was associated with Jeffrey Epstein but only for charitable work in the early 2002s and he then cut ties in 2005, before Epstein’s criminal conduct became public.

There are many public and well-known figures on the Epstein list; the problem is that not a single one of them has been arrested yet… The former US Attorney General Pam Bondi clearly stated that the Jeffrey Epstein client list was ‘’sitting on my desk right now’’, while she also reviewed the JFK and MLK files as well, after President Donald Trump’s earlier directives. At the same time, President Trump was saying that ‘’nobody cares about Epstein’’! What is the truth?! And since it wasn’t such a significant issue for Trump, why did he mention it in his 2024 election campaign?!

The public, and of course the victims, need justice and finally the truth. All the responsible must be brought to justice for their crimes. We are talking about exploitation of minors, yet no one has been arrested and/or punished for these crimes. What kind of justice system are we talking about when underage girls have been abused for decades and no one is held accountable? The issue is not merely who is involved, but the fair administration of justice itself.

The Epstein case is a prime example  of how individuals with status, connections, and wealth, can evade the letter of the law. Conversely, if an ordinary citizen had committed these crimes, they would have faced the full weight of the legal system. How can we possibly speak of equal treatment under the law? Political parties don’t matter; what matters is defending the people, their safety and their human rights. Every single party in the world has failed at this, and that is exactly why we are in the position we are in today.

Jeffrey Epstein’s death raises many questions. Did he really commit suicide? How it is possible that the guards did not conduct frequent patrols on Epstein’s cell? Was it truly a suicide, or could it have been a contract killing to keep the secrets he knew.. Epstein knew too much. Or perhaps the suicide was staged, and he escaped elsewhere under secrecy?

Let’s not forget that the US House Oversight Committee released a longer version of surveillance footage recorded hours before Jeffrey Epstein’s death, on 10 August 2019. The new footage includes a minute that was missing from the FBI video released earlier. It is hard to believe that this particular minute is just missing. That timeline  was critical, and many things could have unfolded during that gap. The FBI destroyed the original recording of the night Jeffrey Epstein died and later presented a new version of the video footage. Isn’t it suspicious that the FBI destroyed the original footage? Someone should be held accountable for this blatant mishandling of the case. But naturally, nothing was done about it.

Another suicide raising suspicions is Virginia Giuffre’s. It seems hard to believe how an Epstein survivor, so fiercely dedicated to her fight, would suddenly decide to commit suicide. While both individuals might have indeed taken their own lives, both cases certainly require a thorough investigation since they are definitely linked. We cannot just close the case on these deaths; the undeniable connection between them demands a deeped and transparent investigation to ensure true justice.
